Michiru Lowe joined Rutgers’ ALC in 2019. Lowe received a B.A. from Nanzan University in Nagoya Japan, where she studied intercultural communication and education and an M.A. from Columbia University, where she studied Japanese Pedagogy.Lowe’s scholarly interests are the various forms of integration of technology in language education, second language learning and instruction, and heritage language learning. Her current pedagogical interests include community involvement and the use of extensive reading materials in beginning-level language education.Before joining Rutgers, Lowe previously taught at Vanderbilt University from 2012–2019. She has taught a number of Japanese language courses from introductory to advanced levels and from children to adult learners. Before moving to the U.S., she taught English as a foreign language at a public junior high school in Nagano, Japan.
