The department offers major programs in Chinese and in East Asian Languages and Area Studies—with concentrations in Chinese, Japanese, or Korean, and minor programs in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Asian Studies.
NEWS FLASH: On September 17, 2018, The State of New Jersey approved three new majors in Asian Studies (formerly known as East Asian Languages and Area Studies), Japanese, and Korean. The new major programs will be implemented during the academic year 2018-2019, and students can then choose to major or minor in Asian Studies, Chinese, Japanese, or Korean. Majors earn their B.A. in Asian Studies, B.A. in Chinese, B.A. in Japanese, or B.A. in Korean.
Our Mission: We have created an exceptional learning environment for the study of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean languages and cultures, and recently added Filipino and Vietnamese to our language offerings. Our faculty members conduct cutting-edge research that is transforming the fields of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean Studies in North America and internationally.
