Related Undergraduate Major and Minor Programs

In addition to the minor program in Asian studies, Rutgers also offers the following undergraduate major and minor programs related to Asia:

Major in Chinese

The major in Chinese consists of eight semester courses (24 credits) in Chinese beyond the intermediate level, including courses in both modern and literary Chinese. Chinese majors are strongly urged to take courses in English, comparative literature, linguistics, economics, or business, and courses on China offered by other departments.

Major in East Asian Languages and Area Studies with a Concentration in Chinese, Japanese, or Korean

This major consists of a minimum of four semester courses (12 credits) beyond the intermediate level in one of the East Asian languages, generally Chinese, Japanese, or Korean and six appropriate courses (18 credits) related to Asia in other disciplines. For students with a concentration in Chinese, some training in literary Chinese is recommended.

Minor in Chinese, Korean, or Japanese

Rutgers offers minor programs in Chinese, Korean and Japanese. The minor in all these fields of study consists of six semester courses (18 credits) beyond the elementary level, three of which must be at the 300 level or above.
